Nigeria has indefinitely suspended Twitter's activities, two days after the social media giant removed a controversial post from President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional secessionists.
The message, posted to the president’s account on Tuesday, was deleted by Twitteron the grounds it was ‘abusive’ – and the Nigerian government announced the impending ban of the website on Friday.
The full tweet from President Buhari said: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War.
“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
