'Friends' actor James Michael Tyler has revealed he has been battling stage 4 prostate cancer for over two years and the disease has now spread to other parts of his body.
The 59-year-old actor, who played Gunther on the hit show, appeared on the Today show on Monday when he told host Craig Melvin about receiving the diagnosis in September 2018 during a routine physical.
“It’s stage 4 [now], late-stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it’s gonna probably get me.”
Tyler appeared virtually on last month’s Friends reunion special.
“I wanted to be a part of that, and initially I was going to be on the stage, at least, with them…. It was bittersweet, honestly. I was very happy to be included. It was my decision not to be a part of that physically and make an appearance on Zoom.”
