Serena Williams has confirmed that she will not be going to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this summer.
Williams confirmed her decision not to participate in this summer's event at a press conference ahead of Wimbledon but did not give any explanation.
“There's a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision. I don't really want to – I don't feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry.”
okyo 2020 organisers have barred family members of athletes from attending the games due to COVID-19 safety protocols which would mean Williams would be separated from her three-year-old daughter for the duration of the event.
