US soccer player Alex Morgan has criticised the IOC over their stance on athletes with young children attending the Tokyo Olympics later this month.
Organisers have said that children may accompany athletes to this summer's Games ‘when necessary’. However, Morgan says it is unclear as to what determines what is necessary and what isn’t.
"Still not sure what ‘when necessary’ even means,” said Morgan. “Is that determined by the mother or the IOC? We are Olympic mothers telling you, it is NECESSARY.”
Family members of athletes are banned from the Games due to COVID-19 safety measures as well as foreign spectators.
