Angela Merkel has faced many difficult moments in her role as German chancellor, but a university visit on her tour of the US presented her with perhaps her most troublesome yet.
She was the special guest at John Hopkins University, a private research academy in Baltimore, Maryland to receive an honorary doctorate.
But as she was presented with her official gown, the chancellor struggled for several minutes trying to work out how to put it, eventually managing to place it over her head to a rapturous, if not relieved, round of applause from the audience.
During the visit she has expressed her deep sorrow at the tragic impact of flooding back in Germany.
