Jeremy Clarkson and caravans have never got on.. and with good reason, as it now transpires the one he was towing in his latest Grand Tour adventure nearly killed him.
Clarkson, 61, was negotiating a tight corner while filming in Scotland when the caravan he had been pulling began to overtake him, after the tow bar detached itself.
He told The Sun: “There was a point, when it started to overtake me, that I thought, ‘God I’m having the biggest accident of my life’.”
A typically sympathetic James May added: “For half a second I thought the whole rig had gone off the edge. I thought, ‘We are finally shot of Jeremy, with his beloved caravan’.”
Clarkson’s near-death experience took place in the latest adventure of Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour, which saw the duo along with Richard Hammond travel to Edinburgh and the Outer Hebrides. The programme airs at the end of July.
