A disturbing video has been released of police using force and a Taser while arresting NBA player Jaxson Hayes.
A Los Angeles police officer can be seen briefly pressing a knee to the neck of New Orleans Pelicans star Jaxson as he is heard to cry out ‘I can’t breathe’, seconds before another officer used a Taser on him during a struggle, according to body camera footage just released.
The officers went to Hayes’ home in the Woodland Hills neighbourhood on July 28 around 3 am after his girlfriend’s cousin called 911 saying Hayes’ girlfriend was sending her text messages saying he had become loud and violent and she was scared.
Hayes argued with officers when they arrived and struggled when they wouldn’t let him back into his house.
The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division looked into the case ‘due to the possibility of force being applied to Hayes’ neck during the use of force’. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to press charges.
