The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday classified the new COVID-19 variant known as B.1.1.529 as a variant of concern (VOC), naming it as "Omicron Variant" at an emergency meeting held in Geneva. Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 Technical lead of the Health Emergencies Programme in WHO stated the classification during an interview.
