People in some Latin American countries are feeling the pain of poverty, inflation and unemployment as COVID-19 continues to weigh down economic recovery. Extreme poverty prompted by the pandemic shot up across the region in 2021, hitting 86 million people, 5 million more than the year before, according to the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
