Beijing (AFP) – China’s foreign ministry slams Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te for urging the US to approve a $14 billion arms sale to the island, warning that “seeking independence by relying on the United States or through military means is a dead end”. Lai’s rhetoric “only exposes his deep-seated anxiety and insecurity,” foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian tells a regular news briefing.
