London erupted as elated fans celebrated in pubs and the streets outside Wembley stadium where England opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a 1-0 win over Croatia on Sunday.
Wembley was bathed in sunshine throughout the game and at last significant numbers were allowed inside, with 22,500 creating a carnival atmosphere.
Fans will be keenly listening to today’s announcement from Boris Johnson about whether Freedom Day will go ahead on June 21, which could see capacity approaching 50,000 for the knockout stages of the tournament.
