A product placement opportunity by Coca-Cola fell flat when Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo disdainfully removed two bottles of the fizzy drink at a press conference.
He slid the bottles out of sight and instead brandished a bottle of water, telling reporters in Portuguese: “Drink water!”
The 36-year-old, who is known to be obsessed with healthy eating and fitness, appeared unimpressed with the sponsor’s stunt, softly muttering ‘Coca-Cola’ as he placed the bottles out of sight.
Ronaldo’s Portugal kick off against Hungary in the ‘Group of Death’ on Tuesday with France v Germany to follow.
