Jeff Bezos has certainly been bitten by the space bug.
Fresh from his jaunt into space aboard his Blue Origin rocket, the billionaire has now offered to cover up to $2bn of NASA’s expenses in exchange for a contract to build a moon-landing vehicle.
Blue Origin would also self-fund a Blue Moon test launch, which would likely cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
In April, NASA awarded Elon Musk’s SpaceX a $2.89bn contract to build the next crewed lunar lander, but in a letter to NASA administrator Bill Nelson, Bezos said NASA should ‘embrace its original strategy of competition’.
The space race is on!
