A new football season beckons but at his first pre-match press conference it was the same old Jurgen Klopp – actually not quite, as he wasn’t wearing his trademark glasses.
Liverpool fans have been commenting on the absence of the famous spectacles during the Reds’ pre-season camp in Austria, with theories ranging from surgery that removes the need for them, to a switch to contact lenses.
And so as he faced the world’s press ahead of Saturday’s opening game at Norwich, we awaited the question we all wanted to hear.
“Are you excited about the new season, Jurgen?”
“How good is it to have Virgil van Dijk back?”
“What do you think about clubs spending £100m on players?”
All legitimate questions, but not in the same league as “Jurgen, where’s your glasses?”
