After 17 years underground, billions of cicadas, called Brood X, began to emerge across 15 states in the eastern half of the United States, including Maryland. Dr. Michael Raupp, renowned entomologist from the University of Maryland, and the author of a popular blog about insects called 'The Bug Guy' anticipates the Brood X to be the largest emergence event since 2004.
