Tangermünde (AFP) – With Germany’s far-right AfD projected to make sweeping gains in a state election closely watched in Germany and abroad, party candidate Ulrich Siegmund insists they will “make history” as he casts a ballot in his native Tangermünde, adding that the vote will “bring about a reordering of the political landscape” regardless of the outcome. A victory for the AfD would be the first time since the Nazi-era of World War II that the far right has run a German state, a prospect that alarms mainstream parties and minority groups.
