Alphorn fest brings sound of music to Swiss mountains

Haute Nendaz (Switzerland) (AFP) – A hundred alphorn players gather high up in the Swiss Alps for the 22nd International Alphorn Festival, with their dulcet tones and harmonies echoing around the mountains. The alphorn is a traditional Swiss instrument which was reputedly used to communicate in the mountains, with its clear sound ringing around the valleys.

Peru police clash with protesters demanding president step down

Lima (AFP) – Protesters and police clashed in Lima on Saturday during renewed demonstrations against Peru’s interim President Dina Boluarte, where demonstrators are demanding she step down and hold elections. Women wearing traditional costumes marched through the streets of downtown Lima, one of them denouncing a “traitorous, genocidal government”.

To answer these burning questions, Arizona researchers have deployed a robot that can breathe, shiver and sweat. His name is ANDI, he’s “the world’s first outdoor thermal mannequin”, says the head of the project, Konrad Rykaczewski.
