Los Angeles (AFP) – The Hollywood writers’ strike broke out this week over pay, but the refusal of studios like Netflix and Disney to rule out artificial intelligence replacing human scribes in the future has only fueled anger and fear on the picket lines. Screenwriter and WGA member Eric Heisserer says “many of us who believe that art cannot be created by a machine, you lose the heart and the soul of the story you’re telling. If you let AI control that, I mean, the first word is artificial, and so it will always feel somewhat artificial”.

New York (AFP) – Furry competitors take over the US Open’s headquarters for the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, with a new fan-favorite competition this year: dog diving. This marks the return of the US’ oldest dog show to New York City after a two-year break, due to pandemic restrictions.

Just Stop Oil activists are arrested on the day of Charles III’s coronation in London. One protester shouts “I have nothing against the coronation, just to hold up a banner, is all I wanted to do. And that’s because four billion people are watching.”
