London (AFP) – Jersey Chief of Police, Robin Smith, confirms at least three fatalities after an explosion in an apartment block in the island’s capital of St Helier. He says the service expects a final figure in the region of 12 fatalities after the operation moved from a rescue to a recovery mission.
Lima (AFP) – Protests across Peru entered their fourth day on Saturday, as thousands continue to fill the streets calling for the release of former president Pedro Castillo and the closure of Congress. Castillo was impeached and arrested on Wednesday 7 December, having faced a series of corruption probes. His successor, Dina Boluarte, who many on the streets see as a “usurper”, is Peru’s first woman president.
