Ninety-six-gun salute fired in Queen’s memory at Tower of London

London (AFP) – IMAGES Cannon fire rings out at the Tower of London in a ceremonial “death gun salute” in memory of Queen Elizabeth II, who died peacefully at her Balmoral estate on Thursday afternoon. Ninety-six shots — one for every year of her life — were fired from Hyde Park and the Tower of London in the capital, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland and Cardiff Castle in Wales, as well as the Channel Islands and Gibraltar.

London (AFP) – Scenes outside Buckingham Palace on Friday morning, the day after Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognisable to billions of people around the world, died at her Scottish Highland retreat. She was 96 years old.

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history, passed away aged 96 at her Scottish Highland retreat. Nigeria was ruled by the British Empire from the mid-nineteenth century until 1960.
