Supporters gather outside ex-president Kirchner’s house after court upholds prison sentence

Buenos Aires (AFP) – Dozens of supporters gather outside the house of former president Cristina Kirchner in Buenos Aires a day after the country’s Supreme Court upheld her fraud conviction, for which she received a six-year prison sentence and was banned for life from holding public office. Kirchner has five days to turn herself over to the authorities. Kirchner was convicted in 2022 of fraudulent administration relating to the granting of public works tenders during her 2007-2015 presidency. IMAGES

Bratunac (AFP) – Sadik Selimovic, a survivor of the 1995 Srebrenica massacres, tells AFP about how searching for the missing remains of his family led him to become an investigator at the Bosnian Institute for Missing Persons. More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed within a matter of days in July 1995 after Bosnian Serb forces captured Srebrenica. Three decades on, the remains of around 1,000 of the victims have yet to be found.

Bur Sudan (AFP) – Displaced Sudanese in the southern city of Port Sudan receive portions of meat on the fourth day of Eid al-Adha. Since the authorities fled the capital Khartoum at the start of the conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces(RSF), Port Sudan has become a haven for government ministries, the UN and hundreds of thousands of displaced people.

Los Angeles (AFP) – Footage from Nine Network Australia shows the moment an Australian TV journalist was shot with a rubber bullet on Sunday while covering the ongoing protests against immigration arrests in Los Angeles. 9News reporter Lauren Tomasi was hit while reporting on live television. Her employer said she was sore but unharmed.
