US food aid company suffers ‘yo-yo’ month after Trump USAID cuts

Fitzgerald (AFP) – The CEO of a plant producing peanut paste for severely malnourished children worldwide says the US Agency for International Development (USAID) reinstated his contract after canceling it last week. “It’s been a yo-yo effect. We receive a memo from USAID to stop, then a restart, then a cancellation. Fortunately, last night, they reinstate the contract,” says Mark Moore, CEO of MANA Nutrition in Fitzgerald, Georgia.

‘We are not alone’: Zelensky thanks Europe at crisis summit

Macron announced the possible extension of France’s nuclear deterrent to European partners on Wednesday, as Europe scrambles to respond to Donald Trump’s upending of the transatlantic alliance.

Rain offers relief in Japan’s worst wildfire in 50 years

Ofunato (Japan) (AFP) – Wet weather brings some relief to northern Japan, battling its worst wildfire in half a century, in a region that had been experiencing record-low rainfall. The blaze around the northern city of Ofunato in the Iwate region has raged for more than a week, killing one person and forcing nearly 4,000 residents to evacuate their homes.

Greenlanders set to vote with Trump annexation calls on mind

Washington (AFP) – A week before Greenlanders go to the polls to elect their members of parliament, the US is on voters’ minds as President Donald Trump again voiced his desire to annex the Arctic island during an address to congress. Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede hit back at Trump’s pledge to take the island “one way or the other”, saying that islanders did not see their future with the United States or even Denmark.
